Lawyer Reacts to Tyre Nichols Case!!

One case that's been gaining a lot of traction is the Tyre Nichols case. Tyre Nichols, a young black man from Memphis Tennessee, was beaten to death by five police officers who are now charged with murder.

There's been a lot of discussion about this case, primarily because of the color of the police officers. Where most cases like this involve white police officers, those charged for the murder of Tyree Nichols belonged to the black community.

It's a unique case, in that sense, but it's clear that people are putting too much weight on the color of the police officers. When in fact, that is not the main issue in this case.

Should the Color of the Police Officers Affect the Case?

The police officers' race doesn't provide any real distinction that warrants looking at the case differently.

It's not about the color of the skin, but more so about the color of the uniform and the badge that the officers wore.

Culture Over Color

Regardless of the color of the police officers, cases like these that involve police misconduct against civilians all boil down to culture. Whether we admit it or not, most police departments have a pervasive culture that gives them the mindset that they are somehow above the law.

This can come from the misconception of their duty to serve and protect, allowing them to think they can treat citizens the way they want to and with impunity.

Of course, that doesn't discount the fact that there are good police officers, and we cannot generalize all of them as having ill intentions or bad mindsets. But in these situations, it's really the pervasive culture that continues to produce these horrible cases that we see over and over again.

At the end of the day, the Tyre Nhicols case is about culture and the mindset that produces it — not color. Hence, people shouldn't get too caught up in the latter. American citizens that are following this case should not be hung up on the issues of race or color. Instead, they should be attacking the police culture that is consistently producing these disastrous outcomes.
